Smack Photography
Project Requirements
We were approached by Geoffrey McNamara, a talented photographer living in Canada's Pacific Northwest, to develop a site for his photography portfolio.
Our client wanted a site that would be simple to use, easy to manage, and provide a clean, modern canvas for his photography. In addition, user access control, and granular permissions management was required to enable private gallery viewing by friends and family members.
Implementation
In collaboration with our client, we created a navigational architecture that focuses on Geoffrey's work and the inspiration that motivates him.
Drupal was chosen as the platform for the site and a wide range of contributed modules were added to implement all of the necessary features, such as:
- Dynamic image galleries, using LightBox 2 for optimal display.
- Granular permissions for controlling how content is published, and accessible throughout the site.
- A powerful administration layer for uploading, sorting, tagging and categorizing images.
- Advanced image handling features, for automatic re-sizing of images for proper display in various sections.

Project Features
Site visitors are presented with a custom gallery landing page, displaying images sorted by category. Images within each of the gallery categories are displayed using LightBox 2 integration, which places images above the current page, providing better continuity and automatic size detection for optimum display.
A robust, back-end interface was developed for the photographer for quickly and easily uploading, tagging, categorizing, and sorting images.
All images are automatically re-sized on the fly, using pre-configured settings for proper display in multiple formats.
