Project Requirements

We began working with the owners of Gabriola Guest House in March 2010 to create a compelling web site that would reflect the relaxed character and charm of this 2-story cedar retreat in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia Canada.

Key requirements included a slide show featuring custom photographs of the guest house, reservation form, guest-book, and an availability calendar.

Implementation

The architecture was developed with the primary goal of providing guests with a simple, easy to navigate site, while promoting the best features that the guest house and surrounding area have to offer.

We recommended Drupal for the web site as an excellent platform for content management. In addition, special attention was given to customizing the administration layer - making life easier for the owners, who are non-technical and too busy to waste time trying to figure out how Drupal works.

Turning the design concept into a fully-functional site was achieved by developing a highly-customized version of the popular 960 Robots Drupal theme.

The core implementation relies heavily on the use of the panels, views and CCK modules, with the addition of several helper modules for enhanced features such as the reservation form and availability calendar.

Availability Calendar

An easy to manage availability calendar allows the site owner to quickly add bookings as reservations are made.

Reservation Request Form

Guests are presented with an easy to use online request form for booking reservations and site owners are automatically notified each time a reservation request is submitted.

Guest Book

A guest book page allows guests to leave their comments online.
