Baja Kayak Adventure Tours Ltd. is a family run adventure outfitter which operates out of Loreto, Mexico and Silva Bay, Gabriola, BC, Canada. The company provides guided, experienced based vacations to healthy, independent, and fun loving people. To expand upon the company's success, a high impact web site was necessary to reach larger numbers of potential clients. Key to this effort is 1) improved communication about the "heart & soul" of Baja Kayak's business model / philosophy; 2) better marketing techniques to increase awareness of Baja Kayak's unique qualities; and 3) improved differentiation between the two operations to provide enhanced targeting of their respective markets.
In order to achieve these goals, Baja Kayak required two sites that:
- provide a modern, dynamic, and up-to-date web presence to promote their services, knowledge and expertise to the public
- offer relevant and timely information, including upcoming tour/expedition packages, dates and prices, guide profiles, blog posts, client testimonials, location maps, and kayaking tips
- allow visitors to browse photo galleries and commentary of tour destinations and past expeditions
- include Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and analytics tracking/reporting that gives site owners the tools and information needed to reach their target markets and increase their conversion rate
Also required is a content management system that will allow Baja Kayak to easily manage content on both sites.
Implementation
To satisfy all of the necessary requirements, our recommendation for Baja Kayak included the development of 2 completely original sites, built from the ground up, using Drupal, with content organized into appropriate sections and driven by an easy to navigate menu system.
Both sites are identical in terms of structure, layout and features, however, each site was designed using different colours and images that reflect the natural landscape and scenery of their unique locations. Some work was also devoted to updating/refining the site logo's.
Successful implementation of both sites (www.bajakayakadventures.com and www.silvabaykayakadventures.com) was completed using Drupal, along with a variety of contributed modules to provide the functionality for key features such as:
- a JavaScript-based promotional slide-show featured on the home page
- a tours/expedition page with information about all of the available packages
- dynamic image galleries, with slide-show capability
- multi-user blog, with categories, tags and the ability to add inline images to blog posts
- dynamic header, sidebar and footer blocks used for teasers on various pages to promote news, events and other information relevant to the page being viewed
- subscription sign-up (including opt-out) functionality for site/blog content updates, event notification, and newsletters
- placement of links for following Baja Kayak Tours on social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

A custom News & Events entry form allows site owners to feature specific news, or events items in various sections of the home page.
Inline Images in Blog Posts
The blog entry form has been enhanced to allow easy uploading, inserting and automatic resizing of images.
Dynamic Image Gallery
The image gallery provides a dynamic interface for uploading and managing an unlimited number of images in multiple galleries. Uploaded images are automatically re-sized for display on the gallery cover page, and in the gallery slide-show.
